As previously mentioned, I had a big surprise! It was that Cory and I were getting another puppy! Harvey is our very new family member! He is a black and tan dapple mini dachshund. He just turned one, and came to us from a very nice family who couldn’t give him all the attention and love they knew he deserved. He is fitting in very nicely with the three of us and I’m so happy that Penny will have a companion while we’re at work and school.

Now I shall have to work on changing The Penny Files banner. Suggestions welcome.

Surprise! Surprise!

Something very exciting is happening tomorrow morning, but I’m not telling until Monday. =) I’m picking up a package of sorts, but I don’t want you to see until after it is in my hands (please note, it is nothing related to babies or marriage). Nevertheless. This weekend shall be very exciting for me! Although, I do have a midterm, a thesis proposal to finalize and reading presentation that’s all due next week. Eep.

-I’ve discovered MacarOn Cafe, only a couple of blocks from where I work. The most delicious macaroons ever take residence here.

-I’ve really fallen in love with every item over at Madewell. Their clothes are so exquisite and simple!

-How fantastic is this belt? You can wear it as a bracelet, too! Talk about money well spent. (via creature comforts)

-I would not be opposed to living in a tent, especially if it looked like one of these.

-I always love the Living In series on Design*Sponge, so I was pretty excited when Singin’ in the Rain was featured!

-Who is your favorite literary movie hunk? Mine is Matthew McFadyen in Pride & Prejudice (2005). It’s his walk, saunter, whatever you call it. Or the cheesy “I love you, most ardently“. I love it.

-A helpful resource on decorative tape. I still cannot resist all the different colors and designs. Oh so pretty!

The Doggy Baby

Penny is a bona fide baby. A spoiled one at that. Obviously it’s all mine and bf’s fault, but we don’t have a problem with it because she behaves (mostly). Plus, we have her to dote on. So dote, we do.

Museum of the Moving Image

I finally visited the Museum of the Moving Image after living here for 2+ years. Yes, I know it was horrible of me (being a film major and all) to not have gone sooner. Now that I have happily visited, I find myself wanting to live there. Right inside the museum, on the second floor beneath the wall of beautiful faces (of brilliant actors). I call it the glamour wall. It was a photo filled wall of all my favorite celebrities. Tucked in a little alcove amidst these images was a screen with some chairs. On the screen was this delightful 8 minute clip of the most memorable scenes in every film imaginable, separated by genre with scores/film music accompanying. It was heaven, those 8 minutes. I felt so deliriously happy watching it, knowing at least 98% of the scenes, that I almost burst into tears! Happy tears, obviously. Appreciative tears.

If it’s one thing this museum does well, it really enunciates the beauty and hard work of film and every single thing that goes along with it. From the ancient projectors and cameras, to the sound editing/scoring, effects, editing, costumes, scenery, sets, the moving image itself, the history! Oh, the history is so wonderful! They really created an extraordinary way for everyone of any age to learn and appreciate the history of film. There’s hands on experiments, a station where kids can create their very own stop motion short, stalls that allow you to watch clips and their accompanying score, and test a different score for that scene instead (then you really appreciate the affect a score has on a film, hello Bernard Herrmann).

I don’t think I can put into words how happy this place made me. I had this crazy urge to hug everything, because I wanted to thank every object for allowing film to happen. Every person behind every object! This place has brought out my sappy self in high amounts. Overflowing amounts. Perhaps my new goal in life should be to work there. I could start a preservation exhibit! Can I copyright that idea?

Of course, the trip couldn’t be concluded without a visit to the gift shop. I found some postcards, mixed up movie lines (magnetic poetry kit), and the COOLEST mug ever that says MACGUFFIN on one side, and a definition on the reverse (for those of you who don’t know what a macguffin is (I’m shaking my head disapprovingly at you)).

In Flight

This weeks outfit is brought to you with travel in mind. I’m off to Los Angeles at the end of May, and I want an outfit that is comfy, manageable, weather appropriate, and above all, I do not want to look like a bum. I opted for leggings (my favorite for travel of any sorts). They allow you to move around effortlessly, they’re sleek, and as long as you pair them with nice tops/accessories, you won’t look like you’ve just rolled out of bed. Since I’m going when the temperature is warmer, I thought a tank with a zip up hoodie would suffice nicely.

A larger tote bag with a zipper will hold my iPad, water bottle, iPhone, magazines and necessities with ease, while a small rolling suitcase will fit in the overhead compartment (mine is actually white with big purple polka dots. Classy, right?). I pack very lightly. Checking baggage is a huge pain (and costly), so I suggest just having a carry-on if you can manage. Since my body temperature wavers constantly on planes, I thought a nice scarf would be the perfect accessory. As are glittery gold TOMS for comfy feet.

Laundry Day

Penny’s favorite day of the week is most certainly laundry day. As soon as we return with the freshly (and warm) dried clothes, Penny becomes anxious for us to empty it all onto the bed. She then burrows under and in between to grasp all the warmth possible. This week, she was a little more anxious than usual, and burrowed into the bag…

Mother & Daughter Fun

It’s a very well known fact that I love my parents. When I was living at home, some of my favorite moments were when mum would arrive home from work and we’d sit and have ‘mum and Kelly’ time. We would have coffee and chat, while dad made dinner. I miss those moments the most, now that I can’t see them everyday. This past weekend, it was so wonderful having our time together, just like the old days. As usual, the weekend went by far too quickly and before I knew it, I was putting mum on the BoltBus and we had to say our goodbyes. We both cried like little babies. Even though it was a short visit, we had so much fun!

Penny was over the moon delighted to see her Nana, and was sure to give her an abundant amount of hugs. The three of us started our Sunday out by getting some coffee and going to the park. Penny’s favorite was the horses.

Of course, mum had to spoil Penny. We made a stop into Petco and mum bought her toys, treats, a new fleece, a fabric harness, and a travel bag. That was my birthday present, stuff for Penny! It didn’t bother me a bit though because I love my puppy. Before mum had to leave, we stopped at the Tick Tock Diner and had a yummy brunch consisting of pancakes, sausage and eggs. A lot of coffee, too (duh).

iPad 2

Yesterday, Apple announced the iPad 2! I’m very excited. Ever since I sold my MacBook last summer, I’ve been dying to have one. I have a kindle and I absolutely love to read books on it, but PDF’s? Not so much. And I have a lot of PDF’s for school. I’m also trying to digitize everything I have on paper. Including syllabi’s for school, reading material in PDF format, my obnoxious amount of thesis notes, and other sorts of files that I don’t need to have paper copies of. I really love the idea of having the calendar and notes, too. I don’t like to carry a physical planner anymore, and the iPad is a lot easier to navigate than the iPhone. Basically, it’s like having an office on the go!

Of course, I need a case. I’m definitely getting the Smart Cover, but I’m still contemplating whether to get a sleeve for it for traveling purposes. Plus, I’m sort of paranoid that I’ll spill something on it in my bag… These are some I like most: My favorite is from Byrd & Belle. I love the classiness of the felt, and the snap enclosure.

These ones by Sea Breeze Studio are less plain, but still simple.
